06 / COMPLAINTS & COMPLIMENTS

Raise it. Track it. Escalate it.

Suggestions, complaints and compliments help improve municipal services. You can also use the suggestion box at reception.

01Receive & record

The Communications and Public Participation Unit receives, records and refers complaints to the relevant unit within 24 hours. The department acknowledges complaints within three working days and provides the responsible official’s contact details. Automated systems acknowledge within 24 hours. Complaints are captured in the municipal complaints register and by the relevant unit.

02Respond & resolve

Complaints, including written Presidential Hotline complaints, are attended to within three working days. Urgency determines how the matter is concluded; the detailed procedure provides for investigation and resolution within 25 working days, with written feedback on progress. If dissatisfied, escalate to the Municipal Manager.

03Review & escalate

The Municipal Manager investigates and reviews unresolved complaints. If you remain dissatisfied with the outcome, you are advised of your right to refer the matter to the Office of the Speaker. The charter states that unresolved complaints must be finalised within 25 working days.

The generic standards section separately states that complaints and queries will be acknowledged within three days and may be resolved within 21 days thereafter. The detailed complaints procedure uses the working-day timeframes above. These distinctions are retained from the published charter.
